OCS is a rout one could take to commission after a college degree has been obtained. There is an application process that you go through with a local recruiter or officer selection officer. The length of OCS can vary for different candidates. It could take anywhere from three months to a year. The latter only happens when a candidate is having significant troubles with certain academic or physical aspects of the course.
At the end of the course candidates are commissioned, and select what they would like their job to be. This does not mean they will get this job for sure. The needs of the Navy will always come first.
